SFPD Recovered Bike Notifications
Whenever SFPD find stolen bikes we can use a number of channels to announce that they've been found:
- Craigslist
These should all link back to a normative site with listing of the found bikes. It should have some guidelines about what is required to recover a bike, e.g. the serial number, ID, etc.
Civic Notifications
Use case:
- Mr X receives parking ticket
- The parking ticket office notifies the civic profile
- Mr X receives SMS or e-mail, based on profile settings
- Mr X moves the car (does not need to be towed)
Integrators and Consultants
Per TransparencyCamp 2009 discussions it seams that many local governments prefer not to deal directly with data publishing.
This is a good opportunity for companies, integrators, consultants or volunteers to offer their services as "last mile solution" trough CivicDB.
Since with CivicDB publishing data is easy (eventually just a database), the aggregation / visualization / User Interface is taken care of by specialized organizations.
Data Source Ideas
Wanted services
Governments can publish job openings, contractor opportunities etc.
Similar Data Formats
There are existing data format specifications that might accomplish what you are trying to do with CivicDB. They can be a good starting point, an existing replacement, or a source of collaboration to prevent duplication of effort.
Open Municipal Geodata Standard
The OMG Standard is a spec to allow city and state governments to share geospacial data in a defined format. "The OMG Standard seeks to promote the free flow of information between government agencies and citizens by establishing a common set of technical standards for organizing and sharing public data."
- www.omgstandard.com - Site for details and tech specs
- www.yourmapper.com - One public site that uses the spec for data importing, mapping, exporting, and an open API.
